This week, we plowed, shoveled, and snow-blew out of our homes like the rest of Boston to put together an exciting post-Christmas show of music and conversation.
In the first half of the hour, we kibitz with Hankus Netsky, director of the Klezmer Conservatory Band. Hankus guides us through a global array of Chanukah music and introduces us to different forms of klezmer.
Anne Azema, Artistic Director and Joel Cohen, Music Director Emeritus of the Boston Camerata join us in the second half to discuss the Camerata’s latest performance schedule and special Chrismas CD.
Have a favorite memory from a performance of the Boston Camerata or the Klezmer Conservatory Band? Is your own musical group/band putting together a holiday CD or program? Comment below and make sure we all know about it.
Don’t forget to Join us this week at 1pm EST on Friday, December 26th and Saturday, December 27th for a Radio Boston infusion of excellent, local music.

While the rest of the Radio Boston producers are working hard to bring you the latest information on Boston’s working poor, I find myself pouring over a fascinating book chronicling the beginnings of the Massachusetts Industrial Age.
This week we bring you some history about the Bay State’s background in industrial innovation. Our host Jane Clayson speaks with Needham resident Dr. Chaim Rosenberg, author of Goods For Sale: Products and Advertising in the Massachusetts Industrial Age.
Tune in to learn more about the factory girls of Lowell, the mills of Lawrence, and the roots of fancy, illustrated product advertising.
Here’s a sampling of the historical images from Dr. Rosenberg’s book:
On October 17th, Radio Boston focuses on Massachusetts Ballot Question One.
The big question: should the Massachusetts state income tax be repealed?
We’ll go into the nitty gritty during the show but some interesting reports have already been featured online. The Massachusetts Taxpayers Foundation published a twenty-eight pager outlining the expected effects of a repealed state income tax. Read it here.
Welcome to the Radio Boston live webchat. We’ll run a chatroom like this every week while the show is live and on the air, Fridays from 1-2pm Eastern Time. Log on and listen in to our live stream: www.wbur.org/listen.
Today, our chat is moderated by Ashley West, a 20-year old recovering herion addict. Why is heroin use spreading among younger and younger people, and what should be done about it?
You’ve seen the Pops at the Hatch Shell. The BSO at Symphony Hall. But have you caught Township at TT The Bear’s? Or Neptune at the Middle East?
Radio Boston takes you inside the local music scene, Friday, December 28th. We broadcast from The Flophouse, the Somerville, MA studio where the Band in Boston podcast is produced. Hear from music great Greg Hawkes of the Cars about how the scene has changed over the years and whether he thinks the Cars would be able to make it big in Boston today.
Plus, check out our box set of web specials, including videos and mp3s of a one-time only live performance by Greg Hawkes strumming a Cars classic on his ukulele…
