I just heard the statistic on your show that in 1950, 58% of the adult labor force was a high-school drop-out, while today the statistic is 8%. This is a striking change and a reminder how young people today are growing up in a different world than half-century ago. The psychologist James Flynn has documented how IQ’s have increased across the last century, and are continuing to increase. The mechanism of increase appears to be the enriched environment of childhood (and adulthood). More educated adults could be a big part of this enriched environment. It used to be a normal thing to drop-out, today it signals an anomaly.
