Boston Rocks
music-show-047.jpg You’ve seen the Pops at the Hatch Shell. The BSO at Symphony Hall. But have you caught Township at TT The Bear’s? Or Neptune at the Middle East? Radio Boston takes you inside the local music scene, Friday, December 28th. We broadcast from The Flophouse, the Somerville, MA studio where the Band in Boston podcast is produced. Hear from music great Greg Hawkes of the Cars about how the scene has changed over the years and whether he thinks the Cars would be able to make it big in Boston today. Plus, check out our box set of web specials, including videos and mp3s of a one-time only live performance by Greg Hawkes strumming a Cars classic on his ukulele… WEB SPECIALS When it comes to music videos, we lost count after MTV2, so we started our own rbTV. First on the v-playlist, a little tease from our afternoon at the Flophouse:
THE FAMILY TOWNSHIP music-show-045.jpgmusic-show-043.jpgmusic-show-013.jpgmusic-show-012.jpg Township is hot. They won the WBCN Rock ‘n Roll Rumble. They crashed a Neil Young show at the Orpheum. They were nominated for Outstanding rock band of the year at the Boston Music Awards. And, they played a live set just for Radio Boston. It’s hard not to love a band that describes itself as: “The secret soon revealed itself that the band contained Vermont native and Cancer Conspiracy drummer, Greg Beadle and Boston’s Runner and the Thermodynamics fron tman, Marc Pinansky and Spitzz’s John Sheeran. In just a year and a half, Township has been featured in internationally released commercials and videos, and shared stages with acts ranging from Incubus and Perry Ferrel, to the Fiery Furnaces and Richard Lloyd of Television. With two EP’s under their belt and a full length due in November,” (and Meghna’s favorite part): “These classic rock worshiping guys don’t just live the music, they are the music.” Judge for yourself, with these live tracks (performed exclusively for Radio Boston) from their upcoming 2008 album, Coming Home:

Greg Hawkes brings The Cars to Radio Bostonmusic-show-037.jpg Greg Hawkes was keyboardist for the 80s mega-group, the Cars. (In case you couldn’t tell, Hawkes is the man on the left. The grinning giant on the right is Radio Boston technical director, Tim Skoog, who declared in the sixth grade, “When I grow up, I want to be Greg Hawkes of the Cars.”) The Boston music legend now strums his ukulele for The New Cars, and for Radio Boston… He performed a one-time only special rendition of the Cars classic, “You Might Think”. It will live on our iPods forever.
